The Canine Demine Program

One of the most productive and safest ways of increasing the efficiency of humanitarian demining is by working with Mine Detection Dogs. Canine Demine is a program that facilitates the training of ordinary German Shepherd dogs into extraordinary deminers. These incredible canine demining partners are remarkably adept at identifying the location of mines, without coming into direct contact with them.

Dog Safety: Our Primary Concern

The safety of our canine partners is our primary concern. Canine Demine now sponsors the training and work of 7 dogs: Fanny, Alex, Nightingale, Pax, Layla, Remi and Louis! Our 7 canine partners and their handlers are all currently working hard in Bosnia-Herzegovina to assist in clearing the estimated 1,000,000 landmines. They also work on projects in Croatia to help avoid accidents and return land to productive use.
