Rotary participation in Night of A Thousand Dinners (N1KD) continues to grow. In 2005 95 dinners were held in 26 districts. Rotary Clubs host dinners in restaurants or halls or individual Rotarians host dinners in their homes. Instead of guests bringing wine of dessert, they bring a donation. By registering for N1KD Hosts receive a landmine awareness kit.

Over the past several years N1KD events have occurred in Rotary Districts in Canada, the USA, the UK, Sweden, South Africa; Hong Kong, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Japan, and Australia. In addition, Rotaract and Interact Clubs have supported the N1KD outreach efforts of Rotary Clubs.

District 7070 continues to be the Rotary world's largest participant with 34 dinners registered last year in 30 Clubs, representing more than half of the 7070 District. Since 2003 District 7070 project focus has been on Mozambique. The District has funded the clearance of almost 200,000 square metres of land; directly assisting an estimated 30,000 people.

Many Rotary Districts are taking on the landmine issue. Both District 7080 and 7090 have been strong participants over the past five years.

As Chris Snyder of the Rotary Club of Toronto noted "The Night of A Thousand Dinners is a wonderful Rotary activity, which not only raises money to make mine action happen but also offers an evening of fellowship and provides a glimpse of Rotary to non-Rotarians, which in turn can bring in new members."
